As reported by Lawrence Abrams (Lawrence Abrams) from Bleeping Computer, Linux users attacking new kind of rent-seeking. Unlike other rent-seeking BY this malware does not encrypt files and loads them into attacker-controlled server.

The attack was first discovered, when administrators are faced with sudden shutdown of their sites. Trying to login on the Linux server, they found that the root folders of the sites was removed, and in the /root/folder has a file READ_ME.txt. The file contained a link to a note with a ransom note posted on Pastebin. According to her, the victim can get back your files if in the next two weeks will be sent to the specified bitcoin wallet 2.

The note also have an email address for communication with the extortionists. According to the attackers, they will not respond to silly questions like "can I first see the file?", and intend to work only with those who are willing to pay. After paying the ransom, the hackers promise to give victims access to the files. "When you're done, you can delete them from our servers," - said in a note. However, currently it is unknown whether the attackers return files.
