The largest American manufacturer of medical equipment St. Jude Medical has denied the information about the alleged vulnerabilities in their pacemakers and other cardiac devices, allowing Cybertech.

Thursday, August 25, the company Muddy Waters Capital, specializing in short sales, said about the necessity of withdrawal and re-installation of pacemakers, ICD's (implantable defibrillators) and CRT (cardiac therapeutic devices re-synchronize) the trademark St. Jude Medical in connection with the presence of these devices for vulnerabilities that can lead to malfunction of the equipment.

As claimed by Muddy Waters Capital in their report, the experts of the startup MedSec demonstrated the company's employees examples of two types of cyber attacks to devices. One of them leads to failure of the implant, the second allows you to drain the battery of the device from a distance of 15 metres.

In turn, representatives of St. Jude Medical has denied the possibility of such attacks. According to the official statement of the company, after the implant radius of wireless communications is approximately two meters, and in order to drain the battery of the device, the attacker would need to be near a patient.

A successful attack is possible under certain conditions. First, the offender must continue to give signals to the device for several days. Second, all this time, the victim should lie still.
