Attack is made possible due to the potential vulnerabilities inherent in social resources.

A team of researchers from the University of North Carolina have demonstrated a new method to bypass security systems based on the technology of face recognition, using the available photos of users of social networks. As explained in the report of the experts, the attack was made possible due to the potential vulnerabilities inherent in social resources.

"It is not surprising that the personal photos posted on social networks can pose a threat to privacy. Most of the major social networks recommend users to set privacy settings when posting photos on the website, however, many of these images are often widely available to the public or can only be viewed by friends. In addition, users cannot control the availability of their photos posted by other subscribers," the researchers note.

In the experiment, researchers took photos of 20 volunteers (users of Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, and other social resources). They then used these images to create three-dimensional models of persons who "revived" them with some animation effects imposed on the model skin texture and corrected (if necessary). The models the researchers tested five safety systems, four of them managed to cheat in 55-85% of cases.
