Explosions at oil refineries in Iran could be caused by cyber attacks


Iran's government has called the possible cause of the unprecedented explosions and fires in the main enterprises of the oil and gas industry, took place last month. According to the publication Time, the High Council of Iran on cyberspace does not exclude that the incident occurred as a result of hacker attacks. As the press service of the Ministry created a special team of experts which will check the systems affected enterprises for possible cyberattacks.

The first fire occurred July 6 at the petrochemical plant, Bou-Ali-Sina Petrochemical Company in the Persian Gulf. On its liquidation took three days, and a toxic cloud of smoke headed towards the nearest city, mahshahr with a population of 300 thousand people. Fortunately, has done without victims, but the fire damage is estimated at tens of millions of dollars.

In 2010, the Iranian factories on enrichment of uranium were victims of the malware Stuxnet.
