According to company representatives, Russian law enforcement authorities without warning confiscated the servers.

A VPN provider Private Internet Access has closed their gateways in Russia and will no longer conduct its business in the country.

Qoute:"the Russian government passed a new law requiring providers within one year to keep a record of all Russian traffic. We are confident that within the framework of measures to ensure compliance with the law without any warning the Russian law enforcement authorities recently seized our servers are in Russia", - said representatives of Private Internet Access.

According to them, the company does not store data about user sessions, so as a result of removal of servers, their information was not compromised.

Obviously, we are talking about accepted 7 July 2016 "anti-terrorism package" of laws developed by state Duma Deputy Irina Yarovaya and Senator Viktor Ozerov. The document obliges the Telecom operators for three years to store metadata about calls and messages to the user, within six months to keep the contents of conversations and correspondence and to provide this information at the request of the FSB. Since many services use encryption, to receive cryptographic keys the secret service had two weeks.
